Let the fun begin...

A few weeks ago we picked up our new saanen buck kid from Kickadee Hill Farm in WV. He's growing by leaps and bounds and has a 'borrowed' alpine companion from MRKF farms to keep him company.

We're being especially indecisive on his name, traditionally our bucks have had mob names, so we'll see. We call the sundgau alpine "Pig".

Generally the up and down crazy spring temperatures would wreak havoc on most livestock but our hens are taking it in stride. We're drowning in eggs these days, in fact, our milk refrigerator is full of them.

The Ameraucana hens were the last to join the party, but we have light blue and pale olive colored eggs - every day is like a damn Easter egg hunt though, they lay anywhere but in the nest boxes.

The milk room and washroom are done, just in time. Goat TV, 2016 is back!

Maribel started the party today with twins, one buckling, one doeling. She kept making this face when she was in labor, I felt a little bad about taking her picture, but it was funny. Also, stop reading now if you don't want to see graphic goat birth pics, I got a good one today.

Last warning. . . The little buck was born first. He was left with mom to be dam raised. The little doeling came second and needed a little help as she was trying to come out spine / ribs first. All is well though.  She's living in the luxury of a large dog crate in the milk room since she will be the lonely kid until next weekend when Luci and Emilene deliver.

One down, many to go. . .
